U.S. Gypsum's Industrial Plasters Meet a Variety of Ceramics, 3-D Casting/Statuary, Dental and Specialty Uses

Industrial plasters from the Industrial Products Division of United States Gypsum Company offer low-cost solutions for a wide range of industrial product applications, processes and development opportunities.

The plasters provide a controllable setting performance few other materials can offer. By adding accelerators or retarders setting times can be lengthened or shortened. Setting times can also be reproduced batch to batch.

The plasters also offer controllable expansion -- ranging from 0.0005 to 0.0156 inch per inch (or 3/16 inch per foot). Plaster formulations come closer to zero expansion than nearly any other cementitious material.

U.S. Gypsum Company offers a range of industrial plasters which meet the specific production requirements for a variety of industries.

Ceramic Plasters
For ceramic production, U.S. Gypsum Company offers four products:

Pottery Plaster – A general purpose product recommended for most slip casting applications in the ceramic industry.

No. 1 Pottery Plaster – Formulated to provide stronger, longer-lasting ceramic slip molds. It's the industry standard.

PURITAN® Pottery Plaster – A slightly denser, longer-wearing mold material that is recommended for jiggering applications.

DURAMOLD™ Pottery Plaster – Formulated to provide a longer-lasting, more durable gravity slip casting mold. It is used at a lower consistency than conventional pottery plasters.

3-D Casting Statuary Plasters
Moulding Plaster – A good general purpose plaster where expansion, control, hardness and strength are not of major importance. (The product is referred to as "casting plaster" on the West Coast.)

Industrial Gauging Plaster – A coarser-grind product than Moulding Plaster, resulting in lower water demand for mixing.

White Art Plaster – Similar in working properties to Moulding Plaster. It features a surface hardening agent that reduces paint absorption.

No. 1 Casting Plaster – Similar to White Art Plaster, except it is mixed at a lower-use consistency to increase strength and chip resistance and to further reduce paint absorption.

TUF CAL™ Plaster – A unique polymer-modified, high early-strength fibered plaster. It provides higher green strength and greater chip and impact resistance than White Art Plaster, No. 1 Casting Plaster or HYDROCAL® White Gypsum Cement. It is ideal for hollow cast products.

Dental Plasters
Regular Dental Plaster – A normal set dental plaster recommended for general purpose applications. Similar to Moulding Plaster.

Laboratory Dental Plaster – The same properties as Regular Dental Plaster, except for a faster set time (6 to 9 minutes).

Impression Dental Plaster – Designed for mouth impression work, it has the fastest setting time of all dental plasters (3 1/2 to 5 minutes).

Specialty Plasters
AIRTROL® GeoBinder – Formulated for use in hydroseeding equipment to control erosion while providing protective cover to stimulate plant growth. It also can be sprayed over coat refuse piles to smother spontaneous combustion fires. Other uses includes dust control.

Metal Casting Plaster – A combination of industrial plaster, sand and refractory materials for casting nonferrous matchplates.
